Wind In 2005, Bryan Municipal Utilities partnered with Green Energy Ohio to study the wind around Bryan to determine the potential for wind power development in the area. Monitoring equipment was installed on May 16, 2005, on the WGTE Public Broadcasting radio transmitter west of Bryan. The equipment measured wind speed, direction and temperature at heights of 40 meters, 70 meters and 100 meters. Data were continuously collected through June 5, 2007. In general, the study confirmed the status of Bryan as a Class 2 wind site at a height of 100 meters. This classification means that wind speeds are high enough to merit analysis for development of commercial wind applications using turbines with a hub height at or around 100 meters. The introduction of newer turbine models, which are optimized for lower speeds, might enhance the feasibility of using wind power for electricity generation at lower hub heights for Bryan where wind speeds are more typical of a Class 1 site. The power density calculations for Bryan are strong, which are indicative of higher air density at Bryan due to lower measured temperatures. A portion of the data collected at 100 meters is displayed below. For more information, please contact our office or click the link to the final report:
