May 4, 2010 Communities urge protection of precious source water By LOU PENDLETON During Drinking Water Week 2010, Bryan Municipal Utilities and water providers across North America are encouraging protection of our precious source waters. National Drinking Water Week is a chance for water utilities and the customers we serve to join together and celebrate the immeasurable value of clean and safe water in our daily lives, said Norman Echler, Bryan Water Department superintendent. Bryan has some of the best water in the world, and we all share the obligation to keep it that way. Our water supply comes from an underground aquifer. If this aquifer is polluted, it may become completely unusable. It is important that we are careful to prevent pollution of our groundwater. Here are some tips to help protect our water sources from contamination:
A safe, reliable water supply is critical to the success of any community. It creates jobs, attracts industry and investment and provides for the health and welfare of citizens in ways ranging from disease prevention to fire suppression. For 118 years, Bryan Municipal Utilities has provided safe dependable drinking water to Bryan homes and businesses. Join with Bryan Municipal Utilities, the American Water Works Association and many utilities across the country to celebrate drinking water week.
