By LOU PENDLETON

BMU Communications Supervisor Tracy Goodwin recently earned his Master Technician, HFC Networks certification through the National Cable Television Institute. The certification is an industry-recognized identification of technicians and engineers who have mastered necessary skills related to specific hybrid fiber-coaxial networks.

An expert in HFC network maintenance practices and procedures is qualified to service and maintain two-way analog and digital services in the coaxial feeder and trunk system, fiber-optic system and headend.

Tracy completed Master Technician courses in service and system technician, fiber installation and activation, fiber testing and maintenance, advanced technician and return path operations.

“These courses serve to train our technicians to support and maintain the new advanced services we offer our customers,” said Joe Ferrell, BMU communications superintendent. “The additional skills that these courses provide will be beneficial in providing BMU customers with superior customer service.”

Tracy has 27 years experience in the cable business. He previously completed courses in analog RF coaxial networks and drop installation practices and procedures to earn Master Technician certification. Currently, Tracy is taking courses toward Senior Master Technician certification.

Bryan Municipal Utilities has an ongoing program to keep its technicians current on installing, maintaining and troubleshooting high-speed Internet, high-definition television, and fiber optic networks services. New courses have been developed through the NCTI to help cable industry employees keep up with new technologies.
