1: How to set up an E-mail Account in Outlook Express
- Start Outlook Express (Start-->Programs-->Outlook Express)
- Select Tools then Accounts


- Enter your full name (for example: John Doe)

- Enter your full e-mail address assigned to you as in the example below

- Select POP3 and enter mail.cityofbryan.net for both servers as shown below

- Enter your e-mail username and password

- Enter a name to call this account.

- Select Connect using my local area network (LAN)

- Click to Finish and return you to the following screen

2: How to configure Windows 95/98 for
TCP/IP on the BMU Network
- Go to the Control Panel (Start-->Settings-->Control Panel)
- Click on Network

- Select TCP/IP->Your Network Adapter. If you use a
USB port for your network connection, select TCP->That USB Adapter.

- Select the IP Address tab.
- Select Obtain an IP address automatically

- Select the Gateway tab
- Remove any installed gateways if they exist

- Select the DNS Configuration tab
- Select Disable DNS

- Click OK and close out of the Network windows
- Reboot the PC
3: How to turn off "File and
Print Sharing" in Windows 95/98
- Go to the Control Panel (Start-->Settings-->Control Panel)
- Click on Network

- Click on File and Print Sharing

- If File and Print Sharing is allowed, both boxes will be checked

- Uncheck the boxes to prohibit others from looking at your files

- Click OK and close out of the Network windows
- Reboot the PC
4: How to disable Dial-Up Networking
when using a Cable Modem
- Go to the Control Panel (Start-->Settings-->Control Panel)
- Click on Internet

- Click on the Connection tab
- Select Connect to the Internet using a local area network

- Click OK
- Note: If Outlook Express is trying to use a dial-up connection, see
the "How-To" for setting up an e-mail account in Outlook
Express. Make sure that each e-mail account is configured to Connect
using my local area network (LAN)
