The Three
Rivers Strollers
welcomes you to a Year Round
volksmarch.
WHERE: The VA Medical Center, 2121 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, IN 46805
WHAT'S A VOLKSMARCH: A Volksmarch -- a "People's Walk"" -- is a
walk (usually 10K) along a prescribed route with each participant setting his or
her own pace. This Volksmarch is for anyone who would like to tour Fort Wayne on
foot and benefit from the physical activity.
WHEN: Jan 1 - Dec. 31, 2004
START/FINISH: The VA Medical Center, 2121 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, IN 46805. Enter
the parking lot from Randalia Drive.
PROCEDURE: Participants will get their start cards out of the black walk box at
the Information Desk in the hospital lobby. If no one is at the desk, please go
to the Admissions Desk or ask a security person for the box. Please register,
take a start card, fill in the info to be found at the checkpoints, mail the
cards and check (if you walked for the award or credit) in the stamped/addressed
envelopes found in the box, and stamp your book if appropriate.
WATER AND RESTROOMS are available at the start/finish. Fast food restaurants are
located midway through the walk.
TRAIL: 10K (6.2 miles) in length. It's rated 1+ on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being
the most difficult. The trail is mostly on sidewalks with curbs, making it not
suitable for wheelchairs. There are some grassy areas that will cause some
difficulty for wagons and strollers. More than 20 items of historical points of
interested pointed out on the walk map.
DISCLAIMER: The sponsors are not liable for accidents, theft and/or material
damage. Every effort will be made to keep this a safe and enjoyable event.
AWARD: The award is 2x3-inch emboidered patch depicting the Fort Wayne city
flag. On a blue background, a white "Y" symbolizes the St. Mary's, St.
Joseph and Maumee rivers. The three rivers meet in the heart of the city. In the
center of the "Y" in red is a sketch of a blockhouse and stockade.
Three other pictures, also in red, indicate the nations that occupied the area
during the shifting fortunes of war over three centuries.
