Start times: Subway Sandwich Shop is open every day (except Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day) from 10 A.M. - midnight. Please walk during daylight hours only.

Event description: This is a very easy, enjoyable walk that takes you through historic downtown Defiance and the historic home district. You will also walk through the fort grounds, the site of historic Fort Defiance which was built in 1794 by General Anthony Wayne. You will also walk through Pontiac Park, which is the birthplace of the famous Ottawa Indian Chief Pontiac. Other points of interest are the Defiance County Courthouse, Defiance Public Library (built in 1904 with a Carnegie Grant), the campus of Defiance College (a private 4 year liberal arts college), and the restored canal lock number 5 of the Miami/Erie Canal System.

Award and fees: The walk is free. IVV credit is $3. B Awards are available for $5 including IVV credit. 

Directions: Take State Route 24 to Defiance. Turn South on State Route 66. State Route 66 turns into Clinton Street in Defiance. Subway Sandwich Shop is located one block South of the Northtowne Mall in Defiance.

Comments: Parking for this event is available at the Northtowne Mall or at the grocery store parking lot next to the mall. Please be patient while waiting for the Walk Box, which is located behind the front counter at Subway Sandwich Shop. The employees have customers to take care of and they are graciously allowing us to use their establishment as a starting point for our walk. Please express your appreciation to them before you leave. Be sure to enjoy a delicious hot or cold sandwich, cold drink, or fresh baked cookies while at Subway Sandwich Shop.
